Established on 1st June, 1990, Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) is considered by the Government of India as the National Apex body to represent Telecom Equipment Manufacturers, Fixed & Mobile Handsets manufacturers, Optical fibre and equipments, application providers, Technology Providers, Innovations, Global and Indian Private and Government owned Companies. TEMA has been continuously working since 1990 for development of manufacturing in telecom/.mobile sector and over all development of Telecom/ICT/Mobile Sector in India.

Being the mouthpiece of Indian Telecom/Mobile manufacturing industry; TEMA is involved in a wide range of activities; advising & providing policy suggestions and contributing to the decisions relating to national matters of Telecom/Mobile/Wireless/ICT developments and its manufacturing, planning and promotion of measures for sustainable development of Telecom/Mobile/Wireless/ICT industry, support for promotion and development of technologies and manufacturing, enlightening people, companies about scope for manufacturing, technology adoption, export/import, participation in public and private sector domestic/international tenders/biddings, market assessments, promotion of human resource development, exchanges with foreign telecom/Mobile/Wireless trade and other bodies/associations, equipment and independent software, etc. TEMA also enjoys the privilege of proposing names of technical experts from the industry to various Telecom Committees of the Government of India and major National Industry Associations. TEMA is represented in over 150 odd committees/forums/groups of the Government and other stake holders. All TEMA services & advices are based on generic industry views, without any commitment or liability and of a advisory nature, where the companies/Institutions/Bodies are required to take their own independent decisions, as they may feel desirable, keeping in view their policies, strategies and rule regulations.
TEMA plays active role in Make in India, Digital India, Start Up India, Skill India etc. Through its 54 MOU partners worldwide, TEM promotes international and bilateral trade by being member of ITU Geneva, CTO UK, IEEE USA etc. TEMA of its own and also in association with other trade bodies organizes several conferences, expos, seminars, events from time to time. TEMA plays critical role for shaping international/bilateral policies, FTAs and WTO/ITA related matters.
Exclusive services offered to TEMA members include, market assessments, scope for manufacturing of telecom products in India, interaction with Government, Policy makers, interaction with various National Confederations of Industries, overseas Delegations, Exhibition Organizers, Market Development Assistance Authorities, Tender Information, Excise and Customs Departments, Telecom Engineering Center for product specifications etc. TEMA members are exporting a variety of Telecom Equipments to South America, Middle-East, Africa, SAARC, CIS and South East Asian Countries.
TEMA received and send industry delegation abroad for various events including CES LV USA, Taitronics, Commasia Singapore, Cebit, BRICS conferences etc.
TEMA is also known as author of Procurement Manual of BSNL/MTNL and contribute heavily in making of specifications, standards, testing, quality parameters with TEC,QA,TRAI, BIS, DOT etc.
The correct name of association as per records with Registrar of Societies is “Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India” and not Telecom Equipment Manufacturers’ Association of India”. It may be noted that Telecom Equipment Manufacturers’ Association of India (TEMA) is not correct name, as Apostrophe ‘is not used in correct TEMA name. TEMA EXPORT PROMOTION FORUM (TEMA EPC)
TEMA Export Promotion Forum was set up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to promote Export of Telecom Equipments and Services. With the formation of the Forum, it can undertake several activities aimed at export promotion such as Commissioning of Studies to find potential markets, holding of National/International Seminars and facilitating participation of exporters in various overseas exhibitions. The forum would also be able to disseminate trade related data to its members. The Forum also make various recommendations to the Government for making necessary changes in various policies and procedures for promotion of Exports and Services.

Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA) was formed on 21st March, 1990 by following founding members by signing on Articles of Association and Memorandum of Association. The association got the certificate of registration under the Societies Registration Act of 1960 vide Number 5/ 21042 of 1990 n 1st June, 1990:
